Roça Amparo II 莊園 , São Tomé

Roça Amparo II is a small roça in Me-Zochi, São Tomé e Príncipe.
It is not far away the capital, just about 3 km from São Tomé city.

The function of roça had indroduced in another article:
Roça Boa Entrada, São Tomé
http://vintagejhan.blogspot.com/2013/05/roca-boa-entrada-sao-tome.html

The amparo means protection, support or defense in Portuguese.
(Maybe, I think that Amparo II is located on the one way to the mountain area,
so it had some protection function in the past.)
Why it named the second, because there was another Amparo,
and Roça Amparo is in Caué, Southern São Tomé.
It is so interesting that these two roças were so far away,
but the names were the same.
(Maybe, I thought that they had the same function in the past.)

In the 1960s map, there was a small road reached this roça.
But now a trunk road is nearby Roça Amparo II.

The entrance of this roça was near the main road.
We can see parts of the main building of Roça Amparo II from the entrance.

This was a typical roça, but it was small.
There were some houses, (the dormitories original)
and a main building of administration for ruler.
Some Sao Tomeses still lived in the dormitory.

Now, this main building is no function anymore,(and looks like a ruin)
but I think it was a beautiful building before.
The pictures on the top is the main building.

Here, I could not see any things which you can get away, it so empty.
(These were our bicycles)

However, it could image the environment by the room designed.

When we went upstairs to the 1F, (we entry from ground floor)

We all were shocked by this paper.
There was so much paper on the ground, what happened here?

We found the date was about 2003, so interesting!
All the Portuguese left in 1960s, and ended the colony.
Who stayed and worked here?

After I left Amparo II, I asked my questions to Sao Tomese.
They said that after Portuguese leaving,
some Cap Verde people came to Sao Tome,
and they continued the roça business,
even they made some companies in Sao Tome.
Surely, there were also some Sao Tomeses doing it.
But for the government policies or other reasons,
the companies left, and only some Sao Tomeses still did their agriculture.

The device of water collection

The wall structure from the broken site

Although the building was old and broken,
The design was still amazed.
We found the special shape of the stairs.
It was a heart!

It was easy to see the broken roof and floor.

Now, there is no company any more,
but the beautiful roça is here with Sao Tomeses.
